A Visitor’s Guide to Ohio Outdoor Venue for Great Classical Music

From classical concerts to big name musical acts, Blossom Music Center is the scene for the finest in summer outdoor entertainment in Northeast Ohio.

Blossom is located on Steels Corners Road in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, south of Cleveland and north of Akron. There is an exit for Steels Corners off Ohio Route 8, and Blossom can be reached from the west from Interstate 77. Follow the signs.

Blossom offers two seating sections, a large pavilion, which is covered overhead but open on the back and sides, and an expansive lawn area. The lawn area is exposed to the elements, so proper planning is necessary. Tickets run from $20 to $42.

Classical Music Concerts

The best in classical music fills the evening air most Saturdays and Sundays in summer. The world renowned Cleveland Orchestra, Blossom Festival Band and guest artists entertain with popular selections from yesterday and today.

The Orchestra generally plays more popular pieces by favorites such as Beethoven, Mozart and Brahms at Blossom and saves new or avant-garde works for the winter season at Severance Hall

Picnics on the Lawn at Blossom

Blossom encourages patrons to arrive up to three hours early to enjoy a picnic on the grounds and the lawn seating. Many area residents bring large picnic baskets filled with food, wine and desserts. A nice night for a picnic in the short Northeast Ohio summer is truly a special occasion.

Concessions are also available, including barbeque favorites.

The revelry hushes when the Orchestra begins, but before, the grass becomes packed with tarps, blankets and chairs. Experienced attendees know that the grass can be wet, and that even a warm day can turn into a chilly evening.

Patrons holding pavilion tickets can also picnic on the lawn before the show, and either take their baskets back to the car, or place them at the back of the pavilion for safekeeping. No food or drink is allowed in the pavilion.

Parking at Blossom

Blossom provides large free parking lots for Orchestra concerts. Close-in paid parking is also available. A word to the wise on parking; finding the car at the end of the night can be more difficult than imagined during the daylight. Make sure you establish landmarks, (light poles, picnic areas) as the lots look different after dark. A tram drives patrons from the further lots to the gate, but it is still a significant walk to the lawn area.

Special Events at Blossom

Some evenings have fireworks, and July 4th is usually celebrated with star spangled tributes, usually including the “1812” Overture. Guest soloists and conductors keep the performances exciting. .

Summer and fine weather is fleeting in Northeast Ohio and entertainment is packed into the short schedule. Be sure to make time to enjoy the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center.
